High-value lead acquisition: optimising profitability in an ultra-high-CPC sector.
About this case study. An engagement led by Yann Beuzit, founder of Million Marketing, during his previous professional roles, notably in agencies. The client is anonymised for confidentiality; the budget shown is that of the engagement, not a volume managed by Million Marketing.
1. Context and Stakes
The engagement covered a leading law firm, specialising in complex legal fields with high financial stakes. In the legal sector, competition on search engines is among the fiercest in the world, with costs per click reaching tens or even hundreds of euros. The objective was to keep growing case volume while rationalising a massive monthly investment of €150,000.
2. The Strategic Challenge
Digital legal marketing faces specific obstacles that our founder had to overcome:
- CPC volatility: How do you stay visible on the most strategic keywords without exhausting the daily budget in a few clicks?
- Lead filtering: In this sector, many calls and forms concern ineligible cases. Reducing the « noise » was essential so that only qualified prospects reached the lawyers.
- Immediate trust: Someone looking for a lawyer is often in an urgent or stressful situation; the ad and landing page must convey instant authority and reassurance.
3. Strategic Solutions Delivered
The approach led by our founder turned volume management into a strategy of surgical precision:
A. Long-tail, intent-led semantic strategy
The team restructured the account to favour ultra-specific search terms rather than overly expensive generic ones. This captured users with more mature intent and more precise cases, ensuring better use of the budget.
B. Authority-building ad content
To stand out from generic lawyer-matching platforms, the team designed ads highlighting the firm’s specific expertise, past successes (anonymised) and the human dimension of its counsel. The aim was to sell competence and reputation before the first click.
C. Using AI for lead scoring
The team deployed artificial intelligence algorithms to optimise bids in real time.
- Predictive bidding: The AI adjusted bids not on the click itself, but on the probability that the click would generate a high-value case, based on the history of successful conversions.
- Upstream filtering: Optimising contact forms to discourage off-topic requests without degrading the experience for serious clients.
D. Conversion funnel optimisation (CRO)
With traffic this expensive, every visitor had to convert. The team redesigned the landing pages to maximise clarity of the offer and make contact easy (click-to-call, simplified forms), while respecting the sober, premium aesthetic codes of the legal world.
4. Results
Senior management of this legal budget cleaned up the acquisition strategy:
- Better case quality: A drastic reduction in ineligible leads, allowing the firm’s teams to focus on the most profitable cases.
- Controlled cost per lead: Despite market price inflation, acquisition cost remained stable thanks to greater semantic relevance.
- Position of authority: The firm locked down its visibility on its niches of expertise, becoming the go-to reference on search engines against national law firm networks.
Methodological note: This case illustrates our founder’s ability to operate in scarce, high-cost environments where every targeting error translates into immediate financial loss. This rigour ensures the investment serves only the firm’s growth.
