1. Context and Stakes

The engagement covered one of the most iconic names in global haute horlogerie. With an annual investment of €37 million deployed across every continent, the brand was not just seeking to generate sales but to lock down its global semantic dominance. In this world, every ad impression must be a jewel case and every word must reflect a centuries-old quest for perfection.

2. The Strategic Challenge

Managing a budget of this scale in extreme luxury imposes critical barriers that our expert had to steer with watchmaking precision:

  • Protecting the brand territory: Fighting semantic hijacking by unauthorised resellers and counterfeit sites trying to capture the brand’s traffic.
  • Targeting ultra-high-net-worth audiences (UHNWIs): How do you broadcast at scale while remaining exclusive? The global elite had to be reached without diluting the brand image among the general public.
  • Multilingual and cultural consistency: Managing thousands of ad variations while respecting the luxury nuances of each market (Switzerland, United States, China, Middle East).

3. Strategic Solutions Delivered

The approach led by our expert relied on precision engineering combining cutting-edge technology with artistic sensitivity:

A. Prestige semantic governance

We set up a 360° brand protection system.

  • Locking down the brand name: Systematically holding first position on the brand’s own keywords to push out third parties and ensure users always land on the official website.
  • Eliminating « noise » queries: Drastic exclusion of all terms linked to discounts, low prices, second-hand or replicas. Only « new » and « prestige » intent was kept.

B. Audience targeting through luxury signals

To optimise the €37M, we used layers of proprietary and third-party audience data:

  • Behavioural targeting: Identifying profiles who frequent luxury venues (prestige golf courses, marinas, private airports) and consume complementary goods (luxury real estate, yachts, private aviation).
  • Elite geo-fencing: Bidding up in real time in areas with very high purchasing power (Geneva, Place Vendôme, Beverly Hills, Dubai).

C. Search & visual storytelling synergy

Luxury is not read, it is contemplated. We deployed a combined strategy:

  • High-definition image extensions: Systematic use of exceptional-quality visuals within Search ads themselves to pre-sell the product before the click.
  • Supporting YouTube & Display: Using Google’s visual network to build a narrative around the brand’s craftsmanship and heritage, preparing the ground for final conversion on the search network.

D. Automation and AI under human control

Using value-based bidding algorithms to optimise bids according to model sale prices (from a few thousand to several tens of thousands of euros), while keeping strict human supervision to prevent any AI-driven drift in brand image.

4. Results

Senior management of this global budget consolidated the brand’s leadership status:

  • Total image protection: A 90% reduction in third-party reseller visibility on the brand’s keywords, regaining full control of the customer journey.
  • Maximised prestige ROI: Continuous growth in revenue generated online and in boutiques, with optimised budget efficiency despite the scale of the investment.
  • Semantic dominance: The brand became the absolute reference on search engines for all terms linked to haute horlogerie, reinforcing its authority against its historic competitors.

Methodological note: This case illustrates our ability to manage enterprise-scale budgets where rigour, brand protection and elite audience targeting are the absolute conditions for success.
